Shocking new research completed with OnePoll in November 2018 (2,000 respondents) has found that the nation seems to be suffering from a severe lack of sleep!
According to the study, which was conducted by Park Plaza ® Hotels & Resorts, only four in 10 (40%) of people get their recommended eight hours of sleep each night, with a massive one in 10 regularly getting less than four hours' rest each time their head hits the pillow.
Those who are kept up at night say that stress (40%) is a contributing factor, whilst a quarter (25%) blame a lack of comfort. 16% meanwhile lay the blame firmly in the hands of their spouses!
When it comes to what we get up to in bed, sleep is obviously at the top of the list. We also love to watch television (28%), play on our devices (26%), and have a bit of fun between the sheets with our partners (17%).
As for getting a good night's sleep, there were nine things listed as contributing to a great rest:
- Darkness (60%)
- Perfect pillows (52%)
- Cool temperature (40%)
- Luxurious mattress (39%)
- Complete silence (31%)
- Having a bedtime ritual (23%)
- Relaxing smells (19%)
- Pure linen (17%)
- White noise (5%)
These findings encouraged Park Plaza ® to launch their own 'Sleep Experience', which commits to ensure each of their hotel guests get a great night's sleep.
