There's something special about taking a minute or two to sit back and think about all of the things that made you happy when you were a child. Nostalgia is an incredibly powerful thing, and allows us to reflect and smile about some of the wonderful memories we've made in the years gone by. That happiness is something we always try to bring to our readers on Female First.

Welcome to our brand new weekly series, Throwback Thursday.

This week, we'll be taking a look at some of the strangest toys from the '90s, which kept us all enthralled for reasons unknown! If you've still got one of these up in the loft, you could be set to make some big bucks! Or, you could always keep them for the next generation; just don't expect them to appreciate them as much as we did!

POG

I miss my POG, still to this day. Yes, they were just little discs of colour, but they held a special place in my heart. I think my Mum chucked them out along with my Pokémon cards when we moved house. Never forgiven...

Though POG were so popular, not many people knew how to actually play with them in the way in which they were designed. Instead, they'd be chucked across playgrounds like frisbees, and fought over as if they were solid bars of gold.

Furby

Terrifying? Yep. But fun? Abso-freakin'-lutely. The furry electronic pets loved to be swung around, and spoke Furbish to their owners. They'd come packaged with a Furbish dictionary so you could learn the language and understand what they were saying. You could even feed your Furby by sticking your finger in their mouth... Very odd!

Tamagotchi

You can't look back at '90s toys without immediately thinking about some of the original Tamagotchi! The little digital pets would take up hours of our time as we fed, washed and made sure our new best friend would survive each night.

Horrific sound effects would couple with some of the most nightmare-inducing digital graphics, for an experience like no other. Tamagotchi were so popular that they've made a comeback this year, but is the current generation ready to take on such a huge responsibility?

Dear Diary

Whether you wanted to use a diary for traditional means, such as journaling and writing about what had happened throughout the week, or enjoyed a horoscope reading, the Dear Diary was perfect for little girls who had secrets to lock up safe. There were even functions to write down phone numbers and addresses for friends; it was basically a mobile phone for children before they existed, without the call function!

Teksta Dog

Now, we were never lucky enough to find a gold edition of the '90s Teksta Dog like the guy in the video above, but the silver classic was something that could keep us entertained for hours on end. Strange, as all it did was bark a little bit, walk forwards, and do a half-hearted flip, that would often result in it falling onto its side.

Gogo's Crazy Bones

Forget Pokémon cards, Crazy Bones were the subject of some fierce trading techniques in many British playgrounds.

Fighting with friends over who won a Crazy Bones battle and would be able to choose to keep a single blob of plastic from the defeated player's pile was a staple of the '90s, and something many of us will look back on with fond memories.

There were always fakes doing the rounds, but any Crazy Bones collector worth their salt could spot them a mile off!

Gooey Alien Eggs

One of the biggest conspiracies that went around schools in the '90s was that these strange alien toys could give birth. There was always somebody with a relative three times removed that had managed to discover a way to get their alien to reproduce, either by putting it in their fridge, or covering it and another alien in goo before leaving it for a solid 24 hours.

Now, those theories have since been debunked, but what many of us didn't get to experience was the official alien birthing process. There were special packs of the alien toys that would come with three alien babies; one of which really would be inside the mother alien. Strangely, these aliens would give birth out of their backs, as can be seen in the video below:

Looks like a painful birthing process... But, mystery solved!
