What did you do to celebrate St Patrick’s Day this year? Maybe you decorated the house green and threw an Irish themed party, or went to an Irish bar to listen to a live band play, or maybe you stayed at home and dusted off that old U2 album?
However you spent St Patrick’s Day this year, there’s little chance it was as epic as the party thrown by Jameson Whiskey, who’s attendees took part in the most remote St Patrick’s Day celebration in the world.
There was method behind the madness, however. Jameson Whiskey was established in the year 1780, and if you look for those numbers as co-ordinates on a map you’ll find yourself in the middle of deepest, darkest Norway, miles from civilization and just 1000km from the North Pole.
There were no dyed green rivers or shamrocks to be seen, just ice caves, frozen waterfalls and even a polar bear.
The group of friends, from Ireland, India and Argentina, trekked over frozen terrain, overcoming obstacles along the way, to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in the most unexpected way. In-between the snowmobile races, husky rides and ice cave climbing, the Jameson fans cemented their new friendships in the freezing Arctic conditions – bringing new meaning to Jameson on ice!
The group’s off-the-grid adventure was a success, arriving at their final destination, as close as humanly possible to 17 degrees (longitude) 80 degrees (latitude), where they raised a glass and toasted St. Patrick’s Day together.
Simon Fay, International Marketing Director at Irish Distillers, was excited for fans to enjoy the most unique St. Patrick’s Day gathering the world had ever seen: “St. Patrick’s Day is not just a big day of celebration in Ireland – it’s become a historic day that’s shared all over the world, where we get together with friends and make new memories. This year we wanted to show the world you can create unforgettable moments wherever you are and what better way to demonstrate this than from 17° 80°”.
