Catch up with friends and family
Hosting a coffee morning gives you the perfect opportunity to catch up with friends and family over a cuppa and slice of cake. As if this isn’t reason enough, getting together with your dearest and dearest can be good for the soul, too – and as the saying goes, a problem shared is a problem halved.
Get out in the local community
We know that coffee mornings help bring together local communities, as they’re held in a number of locations in every town across the UK – from hospitals and local M&S stores to offices or in people’s homes. Head to your nearest coffee morning (which you can find on this handy map) to meet new people and enjoy some tasty treats, while supporting an amazing cause. If you’re attending a coffee morning in a hospital, you might be lucky enough to meet some incredible Macmillan professionals, or those who benefit from support by Macmillan thanks to the generous donations by the public.
Baking can be therapeutic
Many people find baking therapeutic. Whether it’s the methodical process of measuring out butter and sugar, beating and folding a mixture or whisking eggs as a distraction for any thoughts or worries, if you’re in need of some relaxation or distraction, why not get out the mixing bowl and wooden spoon?
Brush up on your baking skills
If you’ve ever wanted to brush up on your baking skills, what better opportunity than a local coffee morning (whether your own or a friend’s) to get practising! There are lots of recipes on the Macmillan Coffee Morning and M&S websites aimed at people of all abilities for you to try your hand at.
…or not, if you don’t want to! It’s never been easier to host a Coffee Morning without laying a finger on a whisk
If you’re not a baker or don’t have time to spend preparing cakes beforehand, it’s never been easier to host a coffee morning without doing the baking yourself. M&S and Macmillan have been in partnership for the last 10 years, and M&S raised £3million for Macmillan in 2018. Just pop into your local M&S and pick up any of the selected cakes and hot beverages which have a 10% donation to Macmillan attached (including the famous Colin the Caterpillar - who’s had a special Macmillan makeover for September!).
Commemorate loved ones or reflect on your own experience
Hosting a coffee morning in memory of a loved one is a fantastic way to treasure special memories with them or if you’ve had cancer yourself, you can reflect on your own experience alongside friends and family by hosting a coffee morning. We know that Macmillan supporters sometimes want to find a way to ‘give back’, and hosting a coffee morning with loved ones is the perfect way to do so!
Raise vital funds for an urgent cause
Most importantly, hosting your own World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support gives you the opportunity to raise vital funds for an amazing, and urgent, cause. Macmillan is the UK’s leading cancer supporter charity, giving one to one care and physical, emotional and financial support to the huge number of people living with cancer to help them live life as fully as they can. As an organisation which is almost entirely funded by the generosity of the public, anything you’re able to raise will go towards supporting the growing number of people who need Macmillan’s services – and will be hugely appreciated!
