Easter weekend is imminent, and we already know that we'll be eating chocolate until we're sick to celebrate this Spring festival. Chocolate eggs used to be so simple, but these days they are getting more and more creative - and expensive.

Baileys Salted Caramel Egg

We'll start with this comparatively moderately-priced boozy number, available from Tesco for £10. It comes with some milk chocolate, crème caramel truffles and may look basic compared to the rest of these chocolate treats, but anything with Baileys in has us salivating.

Holdsworth The Renaissance Easter Egg

Over at John Lewis we have their exclusive Holdsworth Renaissance milk and white chocolate egg, exquisitely decorated in a marble effect and sitting among a selection of Renaissance Collection chocolates. At £15, it's probably not your first choice of egg to pick up, but we think it's important to treat yourself now and again.

Heston from Waitrose The Chocolate Teapot

Who says chocolate needs to be egg shaped at EasterThis Waitrose teapot is a Mad Hatter's Tea Party themed creation that is, admittedly, a bit of an acquired taste. There are cocoa nib 'tea leaves' inside, as well as truffle chocolcates in three flavours: black tea and ginger in dark chocolate, jasmine tea in white chocolate and Earl Grey with mandarin in milk chocolate. If you're obsessed with tea and chocolate, this is the Easter treat for you.

Eggs With Legs - Jewel Edition

Harvey Nichols' most luxury egg comes inside a quaint hand-painted egg cup created by ceramic designer Mary Rose Young. Unfortunately, it's not the giant egg you probably want, but it's an egg cup you can keep for life. It comes in the Jewel Edition and the Rose Edition, and is very limited edition so don't wait if egg cups are your thing!

Slattery's Patissier & Chocolatier x Zymurgorium Gin

A chocolatier and a gin distillery have teamed up to create two luxury Easter eggs that come with either a bottle of Tropical Flagingo or Pink Unicorn Gin. The egg itself is a shimmery wonder, while the gin is some of the tastiest you'll ever drink. They're available from Selfridges and are priced at £59 and £49.

Ostrich Easter Egg - Dark

At £80, you have to be a true chocolate lover to opt for this Hotel Chocolat number. You get over a kilo of chocolate with this sensational extra large egg with almonds and hazelnuts, alongside a selection of pralines, truffles and caramel chocolates. Ostrich eggs have never looked so appealing.

The Centenary Imperial Egg

If you're in the mood to let chocolate bankrupt you, Yorkshire bakery Bettys has the perfect creation at a whopping £495. It's the annual Imperial Easter egg, which this year is a mind-blowing egg within an egg in shimmering pink and smooth gold. Completely hand-moulded and hand-decorated, it's decorated with sugar roses and leaves and comes to a total of five kilos of Grand Cru Swiss chocolate. If it's a little bit out of your price range, though, there is a smaller version for a fraction of the cost.
