This October, London will welcome a first of its kind experience to Camden with the launch of BeatOrbit, an immersive drumming experience that pits you against friends, family or colleagues to release your fire and beat them to the top spot.
As well as giving you the chance to release your competitive side, BeatOrbit, and drumming in general, has several other surprising benefits that will have you racing down to Camden for the chance to experience the perks of drumming first hand.
Since ancient times music has been linked to wellness, with drum therapy being used as an approach to help people feel happier. This little known wellness secret is at the heart of BeatOrbit. Opening this month, each of BeatOrbit’s four hexagonal music studios contains drum sets for up to six people, surrounded by a 360-degree projection for a truly immersive experience.
Here are 7 reasons why you should try it:
Drumming reduces anxiety and even blood pressure
Whether you’re behind a solo drum kit or hitting the drums in a group, drumming is a great way to tackle stress and anxiety with research showing us that participating in group drumming activity boosts the body's production of feel-good endorphins. That’s right - playing the drums, even for just a few minutes, can boost your mood!
Boost your immune system
Similar to uplifting your mood, playing the drums also helps to boost your immune system. Recent studies have shown that group drumming actually increases natural T-cells, which help the body combat cancer as well as other viruses.
Maximise your brain function
Drumming is a powerful way to give your brain a full neurological workout, and you can expect the visual, auditory and motor cortices to work hard during the one-hour drumming sessions in one of the four BeatOrbit studios.
Be part of a group
Drumming circles and group drumming classes like BeatOrbit provide an opportunity for synchronicity in that you connect with your own spirit at a deeper level while also connecting with other like-minded people to release your fire.
Get fit
BeatOrbit’s drumming sessions are a great way to get your sweat on while having fun. According to a study, you burn an average of 270.4 calories by using hand drums and moving to the beat in only half an hour - depending on how energetic you are!
Boost your intellectualism
Have you heard that drummers are natural intellectuals? According to recent studies, drumming can make you smarter! Learning to drum can help you in subjects like English, by helping you identify emotional cues, a skill you can use to identify characters’ thought processes and motives.
Be more confident
Confidence is a vital component of drumming - if we feel truly confident about our drumming it shines through in every beat of our performance. Inside BeatOrbit’s studios, you learn how to play dynamically: loud and soft. The drums sets are designed not to break even under hardest pressure. The act of playing a loud beat takes guts and boosts your confidence.
