Iconic sports and exercise brand Lucozade Sport has signed English international netball captain Serena Guthrie as an official ambassador – the first netball player to join in the brand’s history.
Captain of the English team with 90 Caps to date, Guthrie joins the likes of heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua and England Lionesses Steph Houghton, Nikita Parris and Izzy Christiansen as an ambassador. Guthrie’s involvement with Lucozade Sport will involve training diaries, Q&As and workouts to encourage more women to get involved with netball.
The popularity of women’s sport has grown significantly in 2019 following this summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup, which saw a record-breaking 28.1m people watch BBC coverage on television and online.
Centre court player Guthrie’s previous sporting achievements include Gold at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, and her career has seen her playing in the top leagues in England, New Zealand and Australia.
Serena Guthrie, Team Bath player and international netball captain comments: “Lucozade Sport has been a part of my training for years so I’m thrilled to now be officially involved as an ambassador. It has been an amazing year for women’s sport so far and I can’t wait to represent English netball on home turf this year.”
Matt Riches, Head of Partnerships at Lucozade Sport, comments: “It’s really exciting to welcome Serena to the Lucozade Sport team as our first official netball ambassador. While we have an established history with the likes of football and boxing, we want to show our commitment to sport of all kinds. We’re delighted to have Serena onboard alongside the likes of Anthony Joshua and our Lionesses and we hope she will help us get even more people moving across the UK.”
