Bonfire Night is one of the most hygge times of year because of its focus on light, whether that is from the bonfire, the sparklers or the fireworks, with that said, if you want to give it even more of a hygge vibe, here are some things you can do.
Light a bonfire: If you already have a fire pit or chiminea in your back garden, this is the perfect tool for making your very own bonfire- and one that will keep the logs from straying where they shouldn’t. Just be sure to keep your children away from the flames and at a safe distance so you can all enjoy it without any injuries. Pull up a chair and listen to the cracking of the wood as it burns and watch the logs as they bubble up like lava. Share scary stories of tales of previous Bonfire Nights. Use it as a time to focus on one another- so put your phones away and enjoy the perfect balance between hot and cold.
Enjoy some traditional food: Bonfire Night is the ideal time to make jacket potatoes, to be eaten straight from the foil, hot dogs with lashings of sauce and Gunpowder Mustard, toffee apples, parkin and marshmallows, toasted by the fire. If you are gifted in the kitchen, make as much of it as you can from scratch, however if you are not- buy in what you need and take your time while eating it to savour every bite.
Enjoy a hot drink while listening to the fireworks: If you are not a fan of the chillier weather, you could always pull back the curtain and watch the night sky while you’re bundled up under a blanket with a brew. The following drinks are a perfect accompaniment for a warmer, more peaceful Bonfire Night.
Wrap up warm and set off some fireworks: Or simply go outside and watch other people’s if your budget won’t allow. People will be making an extra effort this year as each of these annual milestones rolls around, so you are bound to see a few fireworks in the sky this November 5th. If you want to set off your own, make sure you all wear your snuggliest scarfs, coats hats and gloves as you do!

And if it rains…
Watch a movie with an impressive firework display in it: For adults, movies like Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and Final Destination 3 have some memorable fireworks scenes in them and for kids, Mulan, Toy Story and G-Force have some family friendly firework moments to delight your little ones, so snuggle up on the couch and enjoy.
Read a book: There are plenty of titles out there with fireworks in the title from children’s books to romance and non-fiction, so there is something to suit everyone’s taste in the house. Nothing says ‘hygge Bonfire Night’ like being wrapped up in a throw, reading an appropriate book while listening to the bangs going off outside.
Happy Bonfire Night everyone!
