Britney Spears has been in the news as of late, due to a group of fans getting the hashtag #FreeBritney trending following her admission to a mental health facility. Whilst we've already explored some of what has been claimed in regards to her time at the facility, and one very strange and worrying voicemail, today we're going to be focusing on something a little more light-hearted; is Britney Spears forced to use a baby voice when she sings?
Britney's vocal history
It's true that Britney has always had quite a deep voice when it comes to her vocals. Videos of the past which show her singing in her childhood and teen years showcase a rich, low pitch. When it comes to her modern-day singing however, all of that is gone and the behind-the-scenes production magic is put to use to give her a higher, more unique tone.
The Instagram post
This led to some thinking that every little snippet of Britney's singing that is put out into the universe is first twisted and changed into something else. Fans pointed to an Instagram post of the star singing Elvis Presley track Can't Help Falling In Love, in which the person filming spins around her as she performs. They say that the video appears to be sped up, as the frame-rate is a little off, and the spinning around Britney looks as if they're going too fast.
When slowed down, the vocal given by Britney appears to be a closer match to that of which she would give when she was younger. You can check out the video below, which first shows the original, and then the slowed down version of the Instagram post:
So what do we think?
There's no doubt about Britney's voice being manipulated when it comes to the official material she releases. But whether or not this extends to every post on her social media? We're not entirely convinced. Still, if the #FreeBritney movement is to be believed, every aspect of the Pop Princess' life is being controlled by those who wield power over her. And, if that's true, we feel very sorry for her, indeed.
