The incredible Helen McCrory passed away this week, aged 52, following a battle with cancer. The news was announced by her husband and fellow actor, Damian Lewis, who took to social media to post a poignant reflection on his time with the star.

Having worked on such shows as Peaky Blinders and Penny Dreadful, as well as in films including Skyfall and the Harry Potter series, McCrory was one of the most recognisable talents of the modern day, able to switch up her performance no matter the role she was given to undertake.

It is that versatility which made her so popular with people across the globe; whether she was in front of a camera or on stage, she was doing a darn good job.

Her friends and co-stars, as well as her fans, took to Twitter to flood the social media platform with beautiful memories, photographs and moments from McCrory’s career that ensure she will never be forgotten.

Steven Knight, Peaky Blinders creator said: "Helen was one of the great actors of her generation. She was so powerful and controlled and this is so sad.”

Peaky Blinders co-star Cillian Murphy added that he was "broken-hearted to lose such a dear friend”.

He continued: "She was also a gifted actor - fearless and magnificent. She elevated and made humane every scene, every character she played... [it was] a privilege to have worked with this brilliant woman... I will dearly miss my pal.”

Also today, the nation and indeed the world will wave goodbye to the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, following his death at the grand old age of 99.

His official funeral service is set to take place this afternoon, which will see a modified Land Rover on which the Duke himself had worked to turn it into a hearse, carry his coffin to his final resting place.

There will be a national minute’s silence held to remember the Duke’s contributions to the United Kingdom at 3pm BST.

A stunning montage to commemorate the Duke's life has also been unveiled by The Royal Family, which you can see below:

And to keep things light for our final note, who else is absolutely loving the Aldi response on social media to the court notice they’ve been served by Marks & Spencers?

Marks are talking Aldi to court over Aldi’s Cuthbert the Caterpillar cake, which they say too closely resembles their own Colin the Caterpillar sweet offering.

They seem to have failed to realise that most supermarkets have their own version of the caterpillar dessert…

Still, what we’re really loving is the sass shown by Aldi on their Twitter account! Just take a look at some of these tweets…

Morrisons also got in on the action…
