Cricket

Australia have kicked off their preparations for the Women's Ashes against England with a couple of convincing wins over England Academy Women at Loughborough.

The visitors won the first match by six wickets and the second by 68 runs.

After electing to bowl first in the opening game, Australia Women restricted their hosts to 184 for seven in 39 overs. Opener Bryony Smith top-scored with 68 and captain Georgia Elwiss chipped in with 48.

Spinner Jess Jonassen did the damage with the ball as she claimed three for 19.

Rachel Haynes then anchored the chase with an unbeaten 55 as Australia reached their target in 31.2 overs.

Batting first in the second match, Australia amassed a massive 337 for five in their 50 overs as captain Meg Lanning (96), Ashleigh Gardner (59) and Alyssa Healy (52) came to the party.

Although Fran Wilson made 91 for England Women, they fell well short as they were restricted to 269 for nine.

Don't forget the Women's Ashes gets underway on July 26 with a Twenty20 International in Essex.

Here is wicketkeeper Ayssa Healy talking about England's new ball attack ahead of the series.

Golf

Park Sung-hyun claimed her second LPGA Tour title and her seventh overall with a one-stroke win at the NW Arkansas Championship.

The South Korean birdied the par-five 18th hole to finish with a final round off 66 and an overall 18-under-par 195 at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers.

Fellow South Koreans Park In-bee and Kim Hyo-joo and American Danielle Kang were tied for second.

The win sees Park move from second to first in the world rankings, replacing compatriot Jin Young Ko at the top.

"It would definitely be good to be back on the top, but to be honest, there was a lot of pressure when I was the No. 1," she said through a translator. "But I wouldn't want to sort of keep that in mind, because I would be under pressure. But then again, it would feel nice to be the No. 1."

Football

It's down to the last four at the Women's World Cup and England are still among the challengers, but there is a bit of drama ahead of their semi-final. More on that in a bit later.

In case you missed it, Phil Neville's team were the first to qualify for the semis as they brushed aside Norway 3-0 with Jill Scott, Ellen White and Lucy Bronze getting on the scoresheet. Watch out for Bronze's rocket!

They will meet the United States for a place in the final after the defending champions secured a 2-1 win over hosts France with Megan Rapinoe scoring twice for the US and Wendy Renard getting a consolation goal.

The other semi-final will be an all-European affair as reigning European champions the Netherlands will face Sweden.

The Dutch beat Italy 2-0 through second-half goals from Vivianne Miedema and Stefanie van der Gragt.

Sweden, meanwhile, caused a bit of an upset as they secured a 2-1 win over Germany as the Scandinavians recovered from an early Lina Mugall goal. Sofia Jakobsson and Stina Blackstenius hit back for Sweden.

Now back to the bit of "spying" drama ahead of the USA-England semi-final.

The Telegraph reports that "members of the USA backroom staff were found wandering around the private area of their team hotel ahead of Tuesday's World Cup semi-final in Lyon".

Naturally England manager Neville is not happy, saying: "England would not do it. I am happy with our hotel and we were out training. I hope they enjoyed our hotel. It is not something we would do, send somebody round, but it is their problem."

"It’ll have no bearing on the game, to be honest I found it funny. I thought ‘What are they doing?’. It is not the correct etiquette, that’s not something I would allow from our organisation."

Netball

Northern Ireland have been forced to make a change to their World Cup squad with Noleen Armstrong replacing the injured Lisa Bowman, who has been ruled out with an ankle injury.

Netball Northern Ireland executive manager Karen Rollo was disappointed to lose Bowman, but also sees Amstrong's call-up as a positive.

"Losing Lisa is a huge blow for us, she is an incredible player who has been a match winner on so many occasions," Rollo is quoted as saying by BBC.

"We are devastated for her personally as although she has played in two Commonwealth Games and a World Youth Championship this would have been her first senior World Cup.

"We'll be supporting her throughout her recovery and know that she will be fully supporting the squad in Liverpool.

"Having the opportunity to invite Noleen in as a replacement is a massive positive for us, her achievements at international level netball speak for themselves and to have her experience in the squad both on and off court for an event of this magnitude is a real boost following the loss of Lisa."

There is good news from Sky Sports as their YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTU_wC79Dgi9rh4e9-baTqA) will broadcast all 60 games from the Netball World Cup in Liverpool.

They will also have a dedicated channel with Sky Sports Mix renamed Sky Sports Netball and former England captain Ama Agbeze MBE and two-time World Cup winner Sharni Layton will offer expert analysis for the duration of the tournament.

"I'm always looking for new challenges and working with Sky Sports this summer is certainly one of them," Agbeze told Sky Sports.

"I know the England team inside and out, so I hope to bring a fresh and unique perspective to viewers and offer insight into how the team might be thinking and feeling.

"The girls are serious title contenders and I'll be very proud to cheer them on from the side-lines."
