Celebrity weddings, like normal weddings, all differ in more ways than a few. Whether it be the flavour of the cake, the design of the dress, or the publication they choose to cover their big day… OK, maybe the latter doesn’t apply to normal weddings, and so it seems, not too many celebrity ones these days either.
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth married on the 23rd December. We know because Miley shared some black and white photos of their special day on Instagram last night. Since she announced their happy news everyone has been very excited for the newly married couple.
The couple met as teenagers in 2009 whilst on set filming The Last Song. Miley shared a video on her Instagram story of her and new husband, Liam, singing and dancing to Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk.
The wedding appears to have been a small, secret ceremony - a common theme amongst celebrities this year.
Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin also opted for a low-key wedding, away from the paparazzi and the media. The same went for Meghan Trainor and Daryl Sabara, and Cardi B and Offset, who all chose to get hitched away from the limelight.
Once upon a time, celebrity weddings were everywhere. Magazines and publications would be fighting for their exclusives on the glamorous ceremonies for the front-page feature. But now, in the world of social media, it’s much easier and more personal for the celebrity to share their own photos to their fans.
Most people can barely remember a time when Victoria Beckham was Victoria Adams. But before the singer turned businesswoman became and wife and launched the Beckham brand, a huge wedding was planned as the world patiently waited for the exclusive pictures from the big day.
It was OK! Magazine who got the exclusive, and they named the issue their biggest ever, ‘The Wedding of the Decade’.
Now, in the age of the internet where everything is so much more instant, it seems bizarre that there was once a time when we would have to wait for the next special issue of a glossy magazine to find out all there was to know about our favourite celebrities’ wedding day.
Perhaps, that is why A-listers now-a-days prefer to opt for the secret ceremony and share their pictures on their personal accounts, as it gives them more control over their day. After all, it is their day.
As long as we don’t miss out on anything, we’re not bothered how big it is or where the photos are published – we just want to know all the details!
