Rik Mayall's post-mortem has proved inconclusive.
The West London Coroner's Office has announced an examination conducted earlier today (12.06.14) to determine the comedian's cause of death has failed to provide an explanation and further testing will be required.
A spokesperson said: "The post mortem was done this morning. The tests have proved inconclusive therefore tests are ongoing."
The Coroner's Office added that it could be a matter of weeks before a "conclusive result" is reached.
'The Young Ones' and 'Bottom' star died at his home in Barnes, south west London, on Monday (09.06.14) and his wife Barbara Robbins has suggested an epileptic fit could have been the cause of his tragic passing.
Rik suffered from epilepsy after surviving a near-fatal quad bike accident in 1998, which left him fighting for his life in hospital. The comic was on life support for five days and suffered two brain haemorrhages.
Meanwhile, an online campaign encouraging fans to get the comedian's 2010 World Cup song 'Noble England' to the top of the UK singles chart has seen it rise to number 11 as of this morning.
The track, which failed to chart at the time of its release, could reach number one by the time the chart is finalised on Sunday (15.06.14).
Officials Charts Company chief executive Martin Talbot said: "Rik Mayall's death this week was a shock to a whole generation of comedy fans - and their reaction in pushing his 2010 single is a reflection of how much he was loved.
"In turn, his new hit also underlines how the Official Singles Chart remains a modern-day barometer of public opinion."
