Rik Mayall died from an "acute cardiac event".
A post-mortem examination into the 56-year-old comic's death on Monday (09.06.14) proved inconclusive yesterday (12.06.14) but the 'Bottom' star's wife Barbara Robbins says they now know how he died.
She said: "We now know that our darling Rik suffered an 'acute cardiac event' at our home around midday on June 9th.
"He had just returned from his usual run and many people had seen him that morning."
Barbara - who had three children, Rosie, 28, Sydney, 26, and Bonnie, 19, with the 'Young Ones' star - went on to thank the media for "their discretion" and "all the wonderful coverage", adding: "It would have made him very happy."
In her tribute to her "darling husband", she went on to poke fun at his foul-mouthed sense of humour.
She added: "I am sure that you all know Rik's response would be something along the lines of... 'Well thanks very much all of you... Now f*** off!!!' "
The comic's family have been overwhelmed by the "thousands and thousands of messages of condolence" they have received from around the world.
Barbara added: "We always knew that Rik was well loved but we are all overwhelmed by so many joining us in our grief."
West London Coroner's Court are planning further tests to establish the full cause of the star's death.
