Matt Bellamy says his split from Kate Hudson is for the "best".
The former couple announced they had called off their engagement this week and now the rocker has spoken about the break-up publicly for the first time.
The Muse frontman insists he and Kate are both "happy" they made the tough decision to separate and he is now going to focus on recording the band's seventh studio album.
In a post on his personal Twitter account, he revealed: "Love all of you guys! We're both very happy, it's for the best. Thanks for your kind words. Now about that new album..."
Matt, 36, and 35-year-old actress Kate's representative revealed the pair had decided to end their four-year relationship "some time" but are on good terms and are determined to be "committed" co-parents to their three-year-old son Bingham.
The spokesperson said: "Kate and Matt have been separated for some time now. Despite this, they remain very close friends and committed co-parents."
Kate - who had got engaged to Matt in April 2011 - also has 10-year-old son Ryder from her marriage to her ex-husband, Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson.
