Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy sought split advice from Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow.
The showbiz power couple confirmed this week they have called off their engagement after being separated for "some time", and they reportedly held meetings with the Coldplay frontman and the 'Iron Man 3' actress - who "consciously uncoupled" earlier this year - to get advice about parting in the public eye.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Matt and Kate modelled their separation on Chris and Gwyneth. They had several individual meetings with both, seeking advice on how to handle the split plus keep things as normal as possible for their kids.
"They will remain close friends."
The blonde stunner and the 36-year-old singer - who started dating in 2010 and got engaged just a year later - plan to remain "close friends" and are "committed" to raising their son, three-year-old Bingham.
Her representative said in a statement: "Kate and Matt have been separated for some time now.
"Despite this, they remain very close friends and committed co-parents."
While the pair's split has only just been confirmed, the 35-year-old beauty has already been romantically linked to dancer Derek Hough, 29 - who was previously linked to Cheryl Fernandez-Versini following her separation from Ashley Cole - after they were spotted at a Los Angeles restaurant together last weekend.
Kate - who also has son Ryder, 10, from her previous marriage to Chris Robinson - and Derek have known each other for three years and last year she revealed he had been teaching her ballroom dancing.
Speaking at the time, she said: "My heart is really in contemporary jazz, but lately I've been ballroom dancing with Derek Hough. It's been a real blast."
