Johnny Marr is writing a movie.
The Smiths co-founder - who recently revealed he will release a tell-all book about his time in the band in autumn 2016 - has also confessed he is penning the screenplay to a film but kept any details about the picture under wraps.
During an interview with BBC Radio 6 Music's Matt Everitt, he said: "[I've had] an idea for a screenplay.
"I'm doing a movie."
However, the 51-year-old singer-songwriter - who was part of the group alongside Morrissey, Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce - swiftly returned to discussing his book which will be released both as a hardback and as an e-book.
When asked what readers may find shocking about the work, he explained: "That The Smiths really liked each other. A couple of them, anyway. I want for people who like what I do, for the life story to match up with the music. I want it to be really authentic. My life story's been really unusual.
"I've enjoyed it. It's a lot of work - you've got to mind out you don't freeze and lose your own voice. I wanted it to be my own voice. So I'm writing it, I'm not using a ghostwriter or a journalist or anything like that. I'm just relying on a really good memory."
The 'This Charming Man' rocker previously admitted he was inspired to write his memoirs following countless requests from his fans.
He said: "For the past few years as I've been out on tour promoting my solo work fans and journalists have been asking me when I'll write my book. I'm very happy to say that the time has come to tell my story."
