David McIntosh claims he and Kelly Brook have ended their relationship for good.
The former couple, who split in September after getting engaged in March, were spotted enjoying a date in Manchester over the weekend, but the 29-year-old former 'Gladiators' star insists he has given up trying to win the glamour model, 35, back despite wanting to marry her "more than anything."
He said: "I felt I was the best person I could be - and that was not good enough.
"People would be shocked at how much I did. But sometimes you are willing to give and give, but it seemed like nothing I did was right."
David also admitted "women are my weakness" and added: "Love makes the warrior weak."
Despite their issues, he believes he and Kelly would have worked out if she wasn't famous.
He told Closer magazine: "If she dated some actor, that would have been fine.
"But they [her fans] did not want to see her with some normal, tattooed lad.
"Maybe, if she had not been famous, things might have been different.
"I told her: 'I could literally have nothing, but if I have you, I would be happy'.
"But I stopped doing what made me happy - and I blame myself for that. I needed to walk away."
