Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband has revealed the couple was forced to put their Bel Air mansion on the market to pay for the actress' spiralling medical bills.

Prince Frederic von Anhalt put the property up for sale last week (ends23Jan11) after Gabor, 93, had part of her right leg amputated to prevent the spread of gangrene.

During a media tour of the sprawling property on Tuesday (25Jan11), von Anhalt told the press, "I just want to settle my wife's debts and keep her comfortable.

"The upkeep alone per month on the house is $35,000. It gives me a big headache, and I cannot afford to keep paying it."

He also claimed Gabor's monthly medical bills amount to $21,000 (£14,000).

The European royal revealed his ailing wife is "not very good" as she recovers from surgery, telling reporters the actress can no longer recognise her surroundings.

Gabor's daughter Francesca Hilton is disputing the house sale, insisting her stepfather, von Anhalt, has no right to put the property on the market without her consent.
