Zachary Quinto has thanked fans for their "outpouring of support and resonance" after he 'came out' as gay in a new magazine interview.
The star spoke publicly about his sexuality for the first time in an interview with New York Magazine, confirming longrunning speculation by referring to himself as "a gay man".
In a subsequent post on his website, he opened up about his decision to talk about his sexuality, revealing he made the announcement after feeling "indescribable despair" by the tragic suicide of bullied gay teenager Jamey Rodemeyer last month (Sep11).
Quinto has been inundated with messages from his fans and he is overwhelmed by their moving notes.
In a post on his Twitter.com page, he writes, "I have spent the day in awe of this outpouring of support and resonance. We. Are. In. This. Together. Never forget! I am deeply moved."
Gay singer Ricky Martin has applauded Quinto's decision to 'come out', adding, "Congratulations! What an important step! Much peace!"
