Tracy Morgan’s controversial show in Nashville, Tennessee last week (03Jun11) has prompted venue bosses to voice their "regrets" to any theatre-goers who were offended by his stand-up set.
The 30 Rock star took to the stage at the city's Ryman Auditorium for a comedy show, but the night is said to have turned sour when Morgan allegedly made a series of offensive jokes about homosexuality.
The story subsequently hit headlines and invoked the wrath of gay rights groups, with a representative for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLADD) urging Morgan to change his act: "We call on him to remove these violently anti-gay remarks from his show and send a strong message that anti-gay violence is not something to joke about."
"A spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign adds, "If these allegations are true, Tracy Morgan must immediately accept responsibility and apologise."
Bosses at the venue have now distanced themselves from the controversy by issuing a statement about Morgan's performance.
The statement, obtained by TMZ.com, reads, "The Ryman Auditorium regrets that people were offended by statements made by Tracy Morgan during his June 3 appearance.
“The Ryman (management) does not control the content presented by people appearing on its stage, nor does it endorse any of the views of, or statements made by, such persons."
