Tom Morello has predicted more riots will be seen across the world unless there is a massive political upheaval.
Major UK cities were hit with four days of intense unrest last week following a police shooting in London. Other countries in Europe have been rioting in recent years over mismanaged economies.
The Rage Against The Machines rocker has made his feeling clear that disaffected youths will continue to take to the streets unless there is a huge shift in the way nations are governed.
The guitarist tells Kerrang!: "It's a time of global unrest because the poor and the working class have clearly had enough. The world is not in the hands of people who deserve to run it and as long as the profit motive continues to be the political priority, the gap between rich and poor is going to grow, as will the unrest.
"When people have a bright future to look forward to, they don't riot in the streets. Rioting is the expression of those staring into the abyss and it can't be disassociated from the global situation we've witnessed in Spain, Greece, or the Arab world over the past 18 months.
"International poverty has been a powder keg ready to blow and the riots haven't surprised me."
