Tiger Woods has escaped criminal charges following a single-vehicle accident, which landed him in hospital on Friday (27Nov09).

Following an investigation by Florida Highway Patrol officials, the sportsman will be cited for careless driving.

Woods was left injured and reportedly unconscious after reversing his SUV into a water hydrant outside his Florida home and then driving into a neighbour's tree.

At a press conference on Tuesday (01Dec09), FHP spokesman Major Cindy Williams said, "The Florida Highway Patrol has concluded its investigation on the vehicle crash involving Mr. Tiger Woods. The investigation has determined that Mr. Woods is at fault in the crash.

"This afternoon, FHP is in the process of issuing a uniform traffic citation for careless driving to Mr. Woods.

"Careless driving is a moving violation and upon conviction may result in a fine of $164 and four points on a driving record."

Another FHP spokeswoman added, "Mr. Woods has satisfied the requirements of Florida law by providing his driver's license, registration and proof of insurance to us. The FHP is not pursuing criminal charges in this matter."

Police officials will not be seeking information regarding reports Woods was not fit to be behind the wheel of a vehicle at the time of his crash and allegations he and his wife. Erin, had been fighting before the accident.

The spokeswoman stated, "There is insufficient evidence available to issue a subpoena for any additional medical information that might exist in this case... (and) there are no claims of domestic violence by any individual."

Woods took full responsibility for the accident in a statement released on Sunday (29Nov09). He has since pulled out of a golf tournament in California, which was due to start on Wednesday (02Dec09).
