Fashion designer Stella McCartney has hit out at the "truly ugly"fashion world, criticising style makers for their use of real fur.The outburst comes as the sale of fur hits $965 million and is being endorsed by stars such as Kate Moss and Kiera Knightley. McCartney - an outspoken supporter of animal rights group People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) - is careful about the brands she endorsesand is proud she has kept her Stella McCartney label completely fur free. She says, "In many ways, this industry is truly ugly and deeply shallow. Don't get me wrong: I'm no angel, but I do always try to ensure that anything I put my name to is carried out with an ethical awareness. "And I'm proud to be able to say with 100 per cent that not one single animal product is used to create any one of my designs." McCartney hit out at Jean-Paul Gautier, Julien McDonald and Alexander McQueen in particular as they continue to use on the catwalk. But over the last few months this isn't the only problem the fashion industry is facing as the size 0 debate rumbles on. London Fashion Week is a prime example as they refused to ban the ultra thin models from it's catwalk despite pleas from British Fashion Council. They decided against following in the footsteps of Madrid to ban models with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of less than 18 from appearing on the catwalk.
