Sarah Jessica Parker's surrogate mother who is carrying twin babies has found herself at the centre of a bizarre plot by two police officers who allegedly planned to break into her Ohio home on behalf of a U.S. tabloid.
Local news station WTRF TV claims Martins Ferry Police Chief Barry Carpenter and Bridgeport Police Department Chief Chad DoJack struck an agreement with a reporter to burgle the unidentified woman's house and gather information on her lifestyle for a magazine expose.
TMZ.com reports authorities investigating the accusations have seized computers used to hatch the plot as evidence after cops were called to the pregnant woman's house in Martins Ferry following a recent burglary.
But rumoured suspect Carpenter has dismissed the accusations, insisting he has nothing to do with the incident: "I'm 100 per cent innocent in this and my department is as well."
Latest reports suggest burglars were after tapes of voicemail messages left for the woman by Parker and her husband Matthew Broderick.
But the Hollywood couple is confident authorities will get to the bottom of the incident.
Broderick's representative says in a statement: "Matthew and Sarah Jessica have complete faith in the legal system. But because it's a criminal investigation - we will not be making any more comment.
"What I can say is the entire family looks forward to the healthy delivery of their daughters later on this summer."
The stars are expecting twins via the surrogate mother this summer (09), after failing to naturally conceive a brother or sister for six-year-old son James Wilkie.
