U.S. news anchor Robin Roberts has undergone "very successful" surgery to remove a cancerous growth from her breast. The Good Morning America presenter, who announced she was suffering from the disease on the breakfast show earlier this week (beg30Jul07), was operated on by doctors in New York on Friday (03Aug07). Roberts, 47, admitted she was inspired to go for a cancer screening following the death of her co-host Joel Siegel, who passed away from colon cancer last month (Jun07). Roberts' career in 1983 when she became a sports anchor and reporter for WDAM-TV in Mississippi. She moved between various channels as a sports reporter until 2005 when she became co-anchor of Good Morning America after she had served as a news anchor and fill-in.In July of this year Roberts announced live on air that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
