Richard Curtis Honoured At Tv Baftas.... Writer and producer Richard Curtis was hailed a hero for helping "shape the world we live in" as he received the Academy Fellowship at Sunday night's (20May07) Tv Baftas in London.The Notting Hill creator was honoured, not only for his movie work, but also British TV hits including clerical caper The Vicar Of Dibley and his humanitarian efforts with charity campaigns Comic Relief and Make Poverty History.Bafta TV committee chair Peter Salmon said, "Richard Curtis is a hero for many people in the U.K. television and film sectors."He combines humanity and hard work, humour and imagination to create some of the best-loved brands and programmes of modern times. From The Vicar Of Dibley to Comic Relief to Notting Hill and much more besides, his work is loved and praised widely in Britain and abroad."As a writer and producer, he has harnessed the power of television for international causes that have helped shape the world we live in. He more than deserves the highest accolade the Academy can give."Other big winners at the star-studded London Palladium ceremony included funnyman Ricky Gervais, who beat his Extras co-star Stephen Merchant to the prize for Best Comedy Performance.
