British rocker Paul Weller is facing legal action after flouting strict no-smoking laws in Wales. The star lit up a cigarette at a gig in Newport last Wednesday (20Jun07), despite a smoking ban in public places in the country since 2 April (07).Local council officials are set to study video evidence of the offence, which could see Weller fined £200 ($400) for his misdemeanour.Weller the founder of The Jam which burts onto the scene in 1977. By the 1980's The Jam were one of the biggest bands in the UK.But in 1982 Paul Weller made a shock decosion that the band would split at the end of the year. Their final single Beat Surrender became thier fourth number one.Since then Weller has gone on to found The Style Councilbefore going solo in the early 1990's. The smoking ban in Wales can into force on April 2nd 2007 banning smoking in any public enclised space. Th ban comes in force in England on July 1.
