Olivia Wilde was told her career would flop if she didn't lie about her marital status.
The House star wed guitarist Tao Ruspoli six years ago, when she was just 19, before she'd landed her big break on TV show The O.C., and she admits casting bosses advised her to hide her relationship, so she would appear attainable to male fans.
The actress refused, and eventually proved the sceptics wrong - scooping roles in The O.C., House and movie Year One.
Wilde tells GQ magazine, "There were times when people thought it would really hurt me. People said I shouldn't be married, or (I should) lie about being married."
The pair eloped back in 2003 and married on a school bus with only a pair of witnesses present.
But her marital status hasn't done her career any harm as Wilde has found success in the O.C before going onto The Black Donnellys and House.
She moved into movies this year with comedy Year One with Jack Black and will be back on the big screen with Tron Legacy next year.
