Michael Jordan

Basketball great Michael Jordan fought back tears on Friday night (11Sep09) when he was inducted into the sport's Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts.

The sporting legend was honoured at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame for his success on the court during his 15-year career, in which he won 10 championship titles with the Chicago Bulls.

During an emotional acceptance speech, Jordan insisted that despite his icon status among fans of the sport, he does not consider himself to be the greatest.

He said, "When people say I was the greatest ever, I cringe a little. I never played against Jerry West, Elgin Baylor or Wilt Chamberlain.

"To say I'm better than those people is not for me to decide."

Jordan officially retired from the NBA in 2003.
