Michael Douglas insists he could not have picked a better time to fight cancer - because there's so much good sport to watch on TV.

The movie star has been diagnosed with stage four throat cancer and is currently doing what he can to promote new movie Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps before radiation treatment and chemotherapy renders him incapable of chatting to the media.

Then, he plans to rest up and watch sport on TV.

He tells WENN, "I'm just taking it a day at a time and trying to do my homework and keep up with the program and rest.

"I don't have anything to do, thank goodness, and you couldn't have picked a better time.

"Tennis has never been better, college football just started and I got the Monday night (football) game coming up with the (New York) Jets, so sports looks really good.

"And, to top it off, we got a picture that's rockin'. What's not to like?"

But the actor will be back on the big screen next month as he reprises the role of Gordon Gekko in Oliver Stone sequel Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. Douglas won a Best Actor Oscar for his role as Gekko in the 1981 movie.

This time around he is joined on the cast list by Shia Labeouf, Carey Mulligan and Josh Brolin.
