Matt Damon had to wear a New Orleans Saints shirt with his The Adjustment Bureau co-star Anthony Mackie's name embroidered on the back for a late-night TV appearance in America on Friday (05Mar10) after losing a sports bet with The Hurt Locker star.
Mackie is a huge fan of the Super Bowl-winning team and bet New England Patriots superfan Damon on the outcome of the American football season.
Damon lost and had to wear a Saints jersey for the duration of his guest spot on The Late Show with David Letterman.
He told the unimpressed host, who famously likes guests to dress up for his show, "We made some bets... and the Saints won the Super Bowl.
"Had the Patriots won the Super Bowl he was gonna have to put a (quarterback) Tom Brady jersey on and the best part was he was going to go on (all-women magazine show) The View and no matter what they asked him, he was gonna have to try to steer the conversation back towards Tom Brady's greatness.
"He's a great actor, Anthony, and he made a very good bet."
Sports fan Damon admitted he felt awful in a Saints top: "It's not my favorite thing to be doing."
But the actor managed to have a little fun at Letterman's expense when the host asked him if he thought his team, the Indianapolis Colts, would get beat in the Super Bowl.
Damon smiled and said, "It's a big game... You need Tom Brady in there. I'm telling it like it is, man."
