Manson Follower Asks For Freedom - Again

A follower of serial killer Charles Manson, who was convicted of the murders of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca in 1970, has become the latest cult member to ask for freedom.

Leslie Van Houten has asked a parole board to release her from prison after four decades.

The 60 year old has failed to win her freedom more than a dozen times but the former California homecoming princess has often been described as the least culpable member of the so-called Manson family by her supporters.

Van Houten did not take part in the 1969 killings of pregnant actress Sharon Tate and four others at Tate's rented Benedict Canyon home.

Last week (ends02Jul10), California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger denied parole to mass murderer Manson's right-hand man Bruce Davis, 67.

He was recommended for parole in January (10) by a two-member Board of Prison Terms panel but Schwarzenegger reversed the decision, explaining, "I believe his release would pose an unreasonable risk of danger to society at this time."
