Bollywood Latest: Mallika Sherawat is causing controversy yet again, this time with her music launch of Kamal Haasan's film Ugly Aur Pagli.Initial promotion clips of Pritish Nandy Communications' Ugly Aur Pagli show a 'worse for wear' Mallika Sherawat singing 'Main Talli Main Talli Ho Gayi', which translated means 'I am drunk'. To make matters worse it depicts a young free-spirited girl out of control and under the influence of alcohol, described by one source as 'Aaj Phir Jeene Ki Tamanna Hai' on speed. This is like a red rag to a bull for the conservative critics who raise similar uproar when the Lata Mangeshkar sang 'Kaise Rahun Chup' (Inteqaam), 'Jaane Kya Pilaya Tune' (Jugnu) and 'Han Ji Han Main Sharaab Pee Hai' (Seeta Aur Geeta) though that was almost thirty years ago and standards were somewhat different back then. Back then women were allowed to have more fun, now the moral police see it as promoting alcoholism. Never short of an answer Pritish Nandy took a pragmatic approach saying, let them say what they like, as 'Talli' was a zany fun song. While Mallika Sherawat may be saying she's drunk in the song, it should be taken more in the context that she could be high on life.Nandy though feels we should stop wagging fingers of disapproval at other people, questioning why men can lose control in a pub and freak out but when a woman does its classed as a moral affront, Nandy is a strong opponent of moral censorship. Mallika Sherawat unfortunately is a controversial subject always one to push the boundaries so getting drunk on screen albeit acting, creates headlines adding to the focus.
