Award Winning photojournalist TIM HETHERINGTON, has been killed whilst capturing footage of the ongoing unrest in Libya at the age of 41.
Hetherington was one of two Journalists killed, when they were caught out by an explosion in Misurata on Wednesday. The other was photographer Chris Hondros.
As well as co-directing and producing Oscar-nominated Restrepo with Sebastian Junger, which focuses on the conflict in Afghanistan, Hetherington also directed the documentary short Diary and he was also the credited cinematographer on 2007's The Devil Came on Horseback and 2004 TV documentary Liberia: An Uncivil War. Tim had also won the World Press Photo honours, and the Robert Capa Gold Medal.
At least three other top international photojournalists were injured in the blast, according to local news agencies.
Liverpool born Hetherington was recently married and has left behind an album of war besieged countries.
The conflict in Libya has raged on since February of this year, with leader Colonel Qaddafi accused of killing his own people.
The night before he wqs killed Hetherington wrote on his Twitter profile, "In besieged Libyan city of Misrata. Indiscriminate shelling by Qaddafi forces. no sign of Nato."
On the day he died Hetherington had been taking photo's of rebels looking for government troops and collapsed buildings.
Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter said, Mr Hetherington was "about as perfect a model of a war photographer as you're going to find these days."
