John Travola Backs Cruise.... Travolta Defends Cruise's Anti-Depressant Rant John Travolta has defended his fellow Scientologist Tom Cruise's 2005 rant against the use of anti-depressants, but admits he would have expressed his opinion a little differently. The Pulp Fiction star agrees with Cruise's controversial stance on psychiatric medication. He tells the July (07) issue of American magazine W, "I don't disagree with anything Tom says. How would I have presented it? Maybe differently than how he did, but it doesn't matter."I still think that if you analyse most of the school shootings, it is not gun control. It is (psychotropic) drugs at the bottom of it."I don't want to create controversy; I just have an opinion on things, and there is nothing wrong with stating your opinion if you are asked. Everyone wants that right, and because you are famous doesn't mean you have less of a right."Cruise angered many in 2005, when he publicly criticised actress Brooke Shields for taking medication to cope with postpartum depression. He also called psychiatry "a Nazi science".Meanwhile the question being asked is will Tom Cruise could wed Aussie playboy pal James Packer when the businessman marries Erica Baxter later today (20Jun07) after attaining the highest level of "clear" in the Church of Scientology.Australian publication Women's Wear Daily claims Cruise is so high up in the controversial church's hierarchy, he would be legally allowed to perform the wedding ceremony for fellow Scientologist Packer.
Cruise and his wife Katie Holmes will attend the nuptials in the south of France.
