John Goodman is grateful to mark his fourth year as a sober man because he lives with "a lot less regret" now that he's clean.
The former Roseanne star, 59, battled alcoholism for almost 30 years before realising how detrimental his behaviour was on his career and his marriage to his wife Annabeth.
Goodman admits he often "pushed the envelope" as a drunk, strolling into his hotel early in the morning and skipping work to sleep off his hangover.
But the actor decided to turn his life around in 2007, and his new attitude has done wonders for his personal and professional relationships.
He tells Elle magazine, "Everything is better, clearer. I used to go out and drink and have fun.
"But when I got famous, it became more of a shield, and things kind of disintegrated rapidly. There's a lot less regret now and a lot less to be regretful for."
