John Cusack has hailed U.S. President Barack Obama's decision to delay plans to construct a major oil pipeline across the country so officials can undertake a new environmental review on the proposed project.
Green campaigners, including celebrities Daryl Hannah, Mark Ruffalo and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, have been calling on the political leader to reject Keystone XL bosses' pipeline plans, which would carry oil from Canada through the heart of the U.S. to the Gulf of Mexico.
On Thursday (10Nov11), Obama and members of his administration announced the Keystone XL project would be subjected to a fresh review to determine the affects of the pipeline on factors such as climate, water supply, farms and local residents' health, before deciding to approve or deny the proposal.
And Cusack is delighted to hear the news, praising Obama for taking the appropriate action.
In a series of posts on Twitter.com, he writes, "congrats to tar sands action the protests have won and obama has killed it for now. congrats to him for doing the right thing... this is a major vivtory (victory)!"
