Singer/songwriter James Blunt has blasted his native Britain for failing to support his success. Since achieving fame with his debut album Back To Bedlam and a string of hits, the U.K. media have begun to tire of Blunt's romantic lyrics and he is often portrayed negatively in the press. But Blunt's pragmatic about his popularity - or lack of it.He says, "The beauty of music (is that) it's entirely subjective. When anything rises up, there will be an equal and opposite reaction."In the States they're more willing to celebrate success, whereas in England we try to make people take a long, hard look at themselves and their popularity. "But, hey, people come to my shows and they buy my albums - 11 million people so far. That's a fair few positive voices." Blunt origionally had a career in the army rising to the rank of Captain but within a year of leaving the army he signed to EMI Music Publishing as a singer/songwriter.
His debut singles High and Wisemen had mediocre success in the charts and it was song Your Beautiful that was his breakthrough hit.
The song entered the charts at number twelve and six weeks later hit the number one spot. And this propelled his debut album Back To Bedlam to the number one spot.
