Hayden Panettiere is rumoured to star in Picnic on Broadway.
The play was originally shown in 1953 and won a Pulitzer Prize.
Panettiere has been rumoured to have attended a reading of the William Inge play along with actresses Melissa Leo and Laura Innes earlier this week.
Producers have now revealed that they aim to have the production up and running by the end of 2012.
The play holds great significance in New York as it was what launched Paul Newman’s Broadway career back in 1953.
