Tsotsi director Gavin Hood is set for a change of pace after signing up to direct X-Men spin-off Wolverine. The South African filmmaker will direct Australian actor Hugh Jackman as the lone-wolf superhero, who last appeared in 2006's X-Men: The Last. Troy screenwriter David Benioff will write the screenplay for the movie, which is expected to hit screens next year (08). X-Men, the highly popular cartoon, has had a trilogy of movies that had enjoyed success at the box office.X-Men, which was released in 2000 became one of the biggest films of the year grossing over $296 million at the box office worldwide. In 2003 Bryan Singer, the director, and most of the cast reprised their roles in the sequel X2. The film was a hit with the critics and grossed $407.5 million atthe box office. Brett Ratner took over as director from Bryan Singer, who went to film Superman, for The Last Stand and despite mixed reviews it grossed $459 million globally.
The film is expected to be released in 2008.
