Oscar winner Denzel Washington is set to pick up the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film at the BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Awards later this year (07).The Training Day star will be honoured by the Los Angeles branch of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts at a November (07) ceremony at the Century Plaza Hotel in Century City, California. BAFTA/LA chairman Peter Morris enthuses, "As both an actor and director, Denzel continually takes on challenging projects, and we are thrilled to honour and celebrate his immense talents."Washington won his first of two Oscars in 1989 for Best Supporting Actor in the film Glory.In 1992 another Oscar nomination for his role in Spike Lee's Malcolm X. He went on to star alongside Tom Hanks in Philidelphia, The Pelican Brief, Crimson Tide and The Hurricane.In 2001 Washington won the Best Actor Oscar for his role in Training Day. He became only the second African American to win a Best Actor Academy Award, the first being Sidney Poitier.Washington will next be seen in American Gangster with Russell Crowe.
