British Moviemaker Peter Yates dies

The British moviemaker Peter Yates has died at the age of 82.

The director passed away on Sunday 9 January in London after suffering a long illness.

Yates dreamed of becoming an actor and studied at Britain's Royal Acedemy of Dramatic Art and going on to star on the stage, before working as an assistant director for Tony Richardson.

His debut was the 1963's low-budget Summer Holiday starring Sir Cliff Richard and went on to direct the acclaimed 1968 cop movie Bullitt starring Steve McQueen.

Throughout his career Yates received four Acedemy Award nominations, two for Best Producer and Best Director for Breaking Away and another two for The Dresser.

More recently, he worked on a 2000 TV adaptation of Don Quixote and 2004's A Seperate Peace.
