Brad Pitt has an expensive new addition to his art collection after splashing out almost $1 million on a painting at an international art show.
The actor was among bidders at Tuesday's (09Jun09) Art Basel, a show featuring modern and contemporary works in Basel, Switzerland.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Pitt initially walked away from the Neo Rauch oil painting after pondering the purchase for several minutes.
But the Ocean's 11 star couldn't resist the artwork, and returned moments later to drop $956,000 for the nine-foot (2.74 meter)-wide piece, entitled Etappe.
The 1998 painting shows a swirling view of a driver behind a red racecar, with workers nearby carrying hoses.
Pitt hit the headlines earlier this week when rumours have surfaced that he is to wed partner, and mother of his children, Angelina Jolie. But any confimation is yet to be made.
