Pictures of the blemish sparked untrue gossip that the actress was a victim of domestic violence, prompting the couple to release a statement to the press, denying the allegations.
And The Mask of Zorro star still can't believe he was accused of abusing his wife. He tells Britain's Hello! magazine, "It's just that the rumour started to spread.
"I've never hit anyone, a man or a woman. Never. So it really bothered me."
Banderas met his second wife Griffith on the set of Two Much and they married in May 1996. Together they have one child Stella Banderas, born in 1998.
