Al Pacino is in talks with Cars screenwriter, Dan Fogelman to play a washed-up musician who receives a long-lost letter from John Lennon.
It is the screenwriters first role as a director and in the film, 'Imagine', the letter causes the character to reconcile with his estranged son.
The 71-year-old actor, last seen opposite Robert De Niro in Righteous Kill, is said to be negotiating the deal for the part but Warner Brothers confirmed he is on the verge of agreeing.
The son was allegedly set to be played by Steve Carell, who is also starring in Fogelman's latest screen play, Crazy, Stupid Love, but he had to drop out of the project due to scheduling conflicts.
