Absolutely Fabulous is to be revamped for three new U.S. TV specials.
Cancer survivor Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley will again lead the cast, as bawdy socialites Edina Monsoon and Patsy Stone, in the new sagas, which will tie in with the 20th anniversary of the sitcom's debut in Britain.
A statement from Saunders reads, "We hope that, like a good bottle of champagne, we have grown better with age but lost none of our sparkle.
"Viewers in the U.S. have been very kind to the show over the years and we are very happy to return... We fully intend to party like it’s 1991."
Producer Jon Plowman adds, "All of the originals, who are back together again, are still truly absolutely fabulous and we hope that the new adventures of Edina, Patsy, Saffy, Bubble and Mother, plus a few surprising guests, will entertain both our tried and trusted U.S. fans, as well as gain us some new friends."
The three special episodes will be a co-production of BBC America and Logo, which has been airing the original five seasons of Absolutely Fabulous in the U.S. since April (11).
The series debuted on the BBC in 1992 and originally ran for three seasons. It was revived for two more seasons, which ran from 2001 and 2003.
