Comedian Des Clarke swaps the comedy circuit for football stadiums as he teams up with Vauxhall Motors to create a series of football chants to encourage the nation to get behind the women’s team.
Football fan Des, who also hosts the Capital Scotland Breakfast Show, launches the rousing chants as part of Vauxhall Motors’ #GetIN campaign to rally fans to make some noise this summer for their team before they head off to play in the Netherlands.
As official sponsor of the national football teams, Vauxhall Motors launched #GetIN to help fans to show support for their teams, celebrate the spirit of football and give fans one off experiences and real #GetIN moments. The fun chants, penned by Des Clarke, were filmed and recorded in Abbey Road studio for fans to listen to ahead of the summer of football and include a chant for the whole team:
Banging in the goals
Lots of silky passes
Best team it the world
We love our Scottish lassies!
Des Clarke said, “This is the first international football tournament for Scotland for nearly twenty years and I couldn’t be prouder of our team. Writing the chants was a fun challenge. I had a blast playing around with the lyrics, and a right good laugh coming up with the rhymes. I hope the public enjoy learning and singing the chants as we all get behind the team this summer and make some noise for our ladies!”
Individual chants were also created by Des for Scotland heroes Joelle Murray, Leanne Ross and Jo Love. Vauxhall Motors took each player back to their roots to capture their chants at a place which helped them during their journey to wearing their nation’s football shirt. Midfielder Joelle Murray went back to her hometown Chirnside where she started her her footballing career and stencilled onto a local bus stop where she kicked a ball as child, her chant reads:
Your forward line should worry
Cos we’ve got Joelle Murray
Your forward line should worry
Cos we’ve got Joelle Murray
Midfielder Leanne Ross returned to Stenhousemuir where she grew up and played for the local team:
Scotland has a hero
She’s our Andrea Pirlo
We’re gonna win 5-zero
We love you super Learo!
Kilbirnie Lakeside FC, the football ground where Jo Love’s career started, was the backdrop for her chant:
She’s strong, she’s tough
She’s Jo, Jo Love
She wins the ball, and beats them all
She’s Jo, Jo Love
”We wanted to encourage the public to get behind the women’s team and we think Des’ chants do just that” said Cheryl Stibbs, Sponsorship Marketing Manager at Vauxhall Motors. “A summer of football gives us a lot of reasons to make some noise and really support the team. Hopefully the team can give us lots of #GetIN moments for the fans to celebrate together. The women’s team are performing really well at the moment and we are encouraging the nation to back them every step of the way.”
