A one-off act of dishonesty sees a family man’s life escalate into a moral minefield in this warm, touching and thought-provoking comedy. Combining the deft touch of director Tom McCarthy with the dysfunctional brilliance of Academy Award® nominee Paul Giamatti, Win Win is available on Blu-ray and DVD on 30 January 2012 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.
Mike Flaherty (Giamatti; Sideways, Cinderella Man) is an unremarkable family man who practices law at a failing New Jersey firm, whilst teaching the world’s worst school wrestling team on the side.
Unable to tell his long-suffering wife Jackie (Amy Ryan; Gone Baby Gone, Dan In Real Life) that his failing practice is unable to meet his family’s spiralling bills, Mike is tempted by the opportunity to cheat his way into a regular income.
Discovering the chance to claim $1,500 for taking an elderly, senile client Leo (Burt Young; Rocky, Once Upon a Time in America) under his wing, Mike becomes Leo’s official guardian, taking the money before sending him to an old people’s home.
Mike soon finds himself going out of the frying pan and into the fire, as Leo’s wrestling champion grandson Kyle (Alex Shaffer) turns up also seeking refuge, not to mention a place in the wrestling team, as Mike’s once calm life descends into chaos and hilarity.
Critically acclaimed director Tom McCarthy (The Station Agent, The Visitor) expertly orchestrates a warm, engaging and wonderfully quirky ensemble of perfectly pitched characters each of whom become entangled in Mike’s moral crises.
Packed with extras including deleted scenes and filmmaker and cast interview features, Win Win is a must must own Blu-ray and DVD in January.
