On Blu-ray and DVD from 25th March, 2013 one of the best-loved of all of Charles Dickens’ classic stories is brought to sumptuous, decadent life as Great Expectations arrives on Blu-ray and DVD from 25 March, 2013 courtesy of Lionsgate Home Entertainment.
Featuring the cream of British acting talent and reuniting many of the most memorable faces from the Harry Potter series, this BAFTA Award-nominated event is directed by Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Four Weddings and a Funeral) and is perhaps the most visually arresting and emotionally charged adaptation of the enduring story to date.
Starring Helena Bonham Carter (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2) as Miss Haversham, Ralph Fiennes (Skyfall) as Magwitch, Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) as Pip and Holliday Grainger (Anna Karenina) as Estella, the film also features Robbie Coltrane (Arthur Christmas), David Walliams (Little Britain) and Ewen Bremner (Trainspotting).
Young orphan Pip (Irvine) is summoned to the home of the eccentric Miss Haversham (Bonham-Carter) and charged with the task of being educated by her spoilt charge, Estella (Grainger). Sometime later, Pip is given a chance to rise from his humble beginnings as a blacksmith’s apprentice thanks to a mysterious benefactor.
Making his way through London’s class-ridden world as a burgeoning gentleman, Pip uses his new found position to pursue his long-held love for Estella but the shocking truth behind the origins of his great expectations will have devastating consequences for everything - and everyone - he holds dear.
An exercise in cinematic class and a demonstration of just how well the Brits can do Dickens, Great Expectations is the perfect treat for the whole family this Easter.
